Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)
Alcohol, like many other substances, is a drug that hurts many people and communities. The use of alcohol and other drugs during pregnancy is a leading preventable cause of mental, physical and psychological impairments and problems in infants, children, youth and adults. When a pregnant woman drinks alcohol, her baby may be born with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD). People who live with this disability may have difficulty:
- With daily living skills and functions
- Learning from their experiences
- Thinking things through
- Understanding the consequences of their actions
- Interacting with other people
